Amalfi is the most suggestive village on that coast. It traces its ancient horigins to the roman empire; thanks to its sea-faring inhabitants it rose to prosperity and predominance in the year 1000 when it became an indipendent italian republic. Some of the most suggestic sites in the village to visit are the albergo Cappuccini, which is housed in a renovated monastery from the year 1200, the Duomo of S. Andrea built in the year 900, and then renovated in the Arab, Norman style in 1200, and then again in 1700. The stunning façade is adorned with mosaics. Frescos adorn the interior. Also on the list of places to see is the Civic Museum which houses original tablets documenting the Amalfitan rules for commercial maritime traffic. Another attraction is the tower which is located in peaceful cloister from the 1300's. The village is 69 miles far away from our self-catering flats · apartments for rent, about 90 minutes by car with moderate driving, so that one can easily visit the village and the coast with a daily round trip with a car. Wherever you accommodate the best period to visit the village and all that coast is in the autumn, in our mild winter and in the springtime until June; due to the huge traffic in that area in July and August one could need a lot of time only to move from one village to the nearest other one along the same coast. How to reach Amalfi from our holiday homes / holiday accommodation ?
To reach Amalfi from our holiday accommodation one needs 90 minutes about by car with moderate driving and traffic, passing through Salerno and then going along the coastal road - the so called Costiera Amalfitana - and passing through the sea villages of Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori and Atrani. After Amalfi there are Conca dei Marini, Furore, Praiano, Positano.
Also it is possible to reach Amalfi from our holiday homes / holiday accommodation by taking the train at one of our nearest train stations - Vallo della Lucania, 15 minutes by car; or Ascea, 10 minutes by car - toward Salerno - journey time about 40 minutes - ; then taking a bus at Salerno station toward Amalfi.
During the summer we have a fast ferry boat system, that helps to reach the Amalfi coast directly from Casal Velino Marina's dock, that is a short walk or one minute by car from our holiday homes / holiday accommodation.
